Hawley Art Students Receive Scholarships through Celebration of Women and Their Music

A Celebration of Women and Their Music is a nonprofit event that features and celebrates regional women in their musical and artistic achievements. The program was founded in 1998 in the Fargo area by renowned blues singer, chef, and caterer, Deb Jerkins. It is their mission to recognize artistic passions in women and create opportunities for emerging and established artists by opening avenues for networking, mentoring, support and promotion for their individual talents.
“I had never heard about the Celebration of Women event, but it is an amazing program,” Anna Kronbeck stated. Anna applied for a monetary scholarship by submitting four pieces of art and answering a few essay questions. She later received a phone call from Deb Jerkins personally who congratulated her for winning the “Soul Sista Award.”
“They host a concert at the FM Community Theater and have women of all ages sing and play instruments, and though it started as a music event, they have expanded to accept art students. We were acknowledged at the concert as well. It is amazing to see the support of a group of women and know your involvement in the arts can be a lifetime journey and experience,” Anna explained.
